Overview

Horseback Riding is a beautiful and unique way to explore the Sacred Valley of the Incas. While not having to walk, you can relax and enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the Green Valley in its fullest bloom. Visiting the Maras Salt Mines and the ancient Inca Terraces of Moray, you will also satisfy your urge to know more about the Inca culture and the past times. As well, you will have loads of fun riding your horse with your family and friends – an absolutely great experience you don’t want to miss while staying around Cusco.

Full Itinerary

Day 1

We will start our Horseback Riding Tour in the small town of Paucarbamba. You receive your safety equipment and a small demonstration of the basic instructions of how to ride a horse (in case you don’t have any experience). From here, we will ride uphill until we reach the high mountains of the Sacred Valley while enjoying beautiful panoramic views of the snow-capped mountains of Verónica and Chicón. After a 3-hour ride, we will reach the archaeological site of Moray: We will discover the Inca Laboratory Terraces and then continue our ride to the small town of Maras, where we have our box lunch and a short break. Afterward, we continue descending to the Maras Salt Mines. We will stay here for a short while, enjoying the great ambiance and visiting the various tourist shops. Finally, we will finish our tour in Tarabamba where our transport service will be waiting for us to transport you back to Ollantaytambo or Urubamba.

On request, we can include the private transport from and to Cusco, which has an extra cost of USD 50$ for two persons. One-way transport is USD 25$ for two people.

Note

We recommend you buy the General Tourist Ticket that allows you to visit 15 places, including the ruins of Cusco and the museums. Otherwise, you can purchase a one-day partial ticket which allows a one-day visit of just the Cusco sites including Saqsayhuaman, Qenqo, Puka Pucara, and Tambo Machay. This is in case you are not planning to visit any of the sites around Cusco.

If you don’t want to enter the ruins, it is possible to take an optional way and just enjoy the ride over the surrounding mountains of Cusco.
