Puerto Maldonado is known as Peru’s capital of biodiversity. There are few places in the world with such a magical combination of vibrant forests, winding rivers and huge swamps formed in sustainable ecosystems called aguajales.

EcoAmazonia Lodge is located two hours from Puerto Maldonado. To reach the lodge, you will navigate by boat through the Madre de Dios River. It is located in the heart of the Amazon in Tambopata.

EcoAmazonia has 50 comfortable bungalows which were designed and built with local materials while following standards of environmental and social responsibility.

Day 1

Welcome/ Reception

Upon your arrival in Puerto Maldonado, Peru’s capital of biodiversity, you will be welcomed at the airport. From there, we will begin our program with a bus ride around the city.

Afterward, you will head to Puerto Capitanía to board a motorized riverboat and navigate along the Madre de Dios River to EcoAmazonia Lodge. During the journey, you may be fortunate to spot a number of exotic animal species like ronsocos, caimans, turtles, herons, coromonts  in their natural environment.

Once you reach the lodge, you will be welcomed with an exquisite drink. You will then proceed to your bungalow and get settled. Lunch will follow.

Led by your specialized guide, you will begin your tour with an impressive trail to Caimán Pond, a small lake with an abundance of black caiman (Melanosuchus niger) and caiman (Caiman crocodilus) specimens.

At the end of the evening, you will witness a spectacular Amazonian sunset — an intense and colorful experience.

A delicious dinner will await you at the lodge. You’ll have some free time afterward, so enjoy a drink at the bar and spend some time in the excellent game room!

Day 2

You’ll wake up to the beautiful singing of Amazonian birds. A hearty breakfast will provide the energy for a stimulating morning.

After breakfast, you will begin your hike towards the depths of the forest on trails with specially created bridges for crossing gorges and rivers. Along the way, you will pass through the flooded forest and a great variety of flora, fauna and wildlife. You will then arrive at the majestic crystal waters of Lake Apu Victor, surrounded by marshes and giant trees.

Afterward, you’ll head to the Observation Deck, from which you’ll have a panoramic view of the lake and its inhabitants: parrots, macaws, toucans, camungos, shanshos, herons, caimans, turtles, etc. We may even have a chance to observe the giant otter — one of the rainforest’s most spectacular animals.

After several hours, you will return to the lodge to enjoy lunch.

In the afternoon, accompanied by your specialized guide, you will visit Monkey Island, a unique place in the heart of the Madre de Dios River. Monkey Island is located five minutes from the Lodge. During the hike, we will observe extraordinary landscapes, exuberant flora, and a variety of monkey species living in their natural habitat. We will be able to see Maquisapas, Capuchins, Small Lion Monkeys, Frailes, Cotos, and other animals like the Coati and Sloths and a great variety of birds.

Finally, we will enjoy the sunset with the most impressive dusk in the jungle. Back at the lodge, we conclude the day with a pleasant dinner.
