There are only a few places in the world that offer such a magical combination of vibrant forests, winding rivers, and vast swamps, forming a lush and sustainable ecosystem called the “Aguajales”. This is the reason why Puerto Maldonado is known as Peru’s capital of biodiversity.
The Eco-Lodge is located in the Amazon, around two hours from Puerto Maldonado, accessible by navigating the Madre de Dios River – an Ecological Reserve situated within the rainforest in the heart of the Amazon paradise in Tambopata! The Lodge has 50 Bungalows designed and built with local materials, adhering to standards of environmental and social responsibility. It was made to provide comfort and meet your expectations.
Full Itinerary
We will welcome you at the airport upon your arrival in Puerto Maldonado, Peru´s biodiversity capital. Then, we will start our program on the bus, travelling around the city.
Afterwards, we will go to Puerto Capitanía to board a motorised riverboat, then navigate the Madre de Dios River.
During the journey, we will be surrounded by a fascinating natural environment. If we are lucky, we will witness Ronsocos, Caimans, Turtles, Herons, Cormorants and other animals in their natural environment.
Upon arrival at the EcoAmazonia Lodge, we will enjoy an exquisite welcome drink, then settle into our bungalows and have lunch.
CAIMÁN POND
Once we settle down, our specialised tour guide will lead you along an impressive trail to the Caimán Pond, a small lake with an abundance of Caimans (Caiman crocodilus) and Black Caimans (Melanosuchus Niger).
At the end of the evening, you will witness the spectacular sunset in the Amazon, an experience full of intensity and colours.
Upon our return to the Lodge, a delicious dinner will wait for us. Then, you will enjoy your free time. The bar features an excellent game room and a wide variety of drinks.
The morning begins with the sound of beautiful birdsongs from the Amazon Paradise. A hearty breakfast will provide the energy for a morning full of new experiences.
LAKE APU VICTOR
After breakfast, we start our hike into the depths of the forest, along trails with bridges to cross gorges and rivers.
During the journey, we will observe the flooded forest and a variety of flora, fauna and wildlife. Continuing, we arrive at the majestic Lake Apu Victor, with its crystal-clear waters, surrounded by marshes and giant trees.
Afterwards, we climb to the Observation Deck, from which we will enjoy a panoramic view of the lake and observe Parrots, Macaws, Toucans, Camungos, Shanshos, Herons, and other animals, such as Caimans and Turtles. If we are lucky, we have a chance to observe the Giant Otter, one of the rainforest´s most spectacular animals.
After several hours, we will head back to the lodge to enjoy lunch together.

LOST POND
After breakfast, we will start our adventure to the virgin rainforest. Accompanied by a local guide, we hike deep into the jungle to reach the Lost Pond, which serves as a refuge and feeding ground for a wide variety of animals. There, we will have the chance to observe Otters, Caimans, Turtles, Sachavacas (Tapirs), Birds with multi-coloured feathers, the majestic Jaguar and a variety of fish species. This area is unique and proper to the EcoAmazonia’s Ecological Reserve, which maintains it intact, with huge swamps and diverse “aguajales”.
Later, we reach the extraordinary Observation Deck, from which we can appreciate the immense and magical rainforest. Afterwards, we´ll have a pleasant canoe ride around the lake and will return to the Lodge for lunch.
MONKEY ISLAND
In the afternoon, accompanied by our specialised guide, we will visit Monkey Island, which represents a unique place in the heart of the Madre de Dios River. The Monkey Island is five minutes away from the Lodge. During the hike, we will observe extraordinary landscapes, exuberant flora and a variety of monkey species living in their natural habitat. We will be able to see Maquisapas, Capuchins, Small Lion Monkeys, Frailes, Cotos, and other animals such as Coatis and Sloths, as well as a great variety of birds.
Finally, we will enjoy the most impressive sunset in the jungle. Back at the Lodge, we conclude the day with a pleasant dinner.
After a restful night’s sleep, the morning begins with the sound of beautiful birdsongs from the Amazon Paradise. In our dining room awaits a farewell breakfast before embarking on the return to Puerto Maldonado.

Recommendations, what to bring
- A day backpack (to carry personal items)
- Long pants & long-sleeved cotton shirts (we recommend easy dry cloth)
- Rain gear (poncho)
- Low-heeled walking shoes
- Hat/sunglasses, sunscreen
- Insect repellent (must be number one on your list)
- A water bottle
- Good binoculars and a flashlight or headlight
- Cameras with extra batteries
- Your passport, yellow fever certificate and extra money in plastic bags
- If you have extra-large feet, we may not be able to find rubber boots in your size for the muddy trails, as they are generally not available in Peru. Please bring old shoes for the muddy trails.

Children under 2 years don’t pay. For children aged 2 to 8, the Tour is discounted by 30%.
