Overview

Puerto Maldonado is known as Peru’s biodiversity capital. There are only a few places in the world with such a magical combination of vibrant forests, winding rivers, and large swamps, all within sustainable ecosystems called aguajales.

The EcoAmazonia Lodge location is two hours from Puerto Maldonado. To reach the lodge, you will navigate by boat through the Madre de Dios River, in the heart of the Tambopata region of the Amazon.

EcoAmazonia has 50 comfortable bungalows, designed and built with local materials while adhering to environmental and social responsibility standards.

Full Itinerary

Upon your arrival in Puerto Maldonado, Peru’s biodiversity capital, we will meet you at the airport. From there, we will begin our program with a bus ride around the city.

Afterwards, we will head to Puerto Capitanía to board a motorised riverboat and navigate along the Madre de Dios River to EcoAmazonia Lodge. During the journey, we may be fortunate to spot several exotic animal species — ronsocos, caimans, turtles, herons, and cormorants — in their natural environment.

Once we reach the Lodge, an exquisite drink will welcome you. We will then proceed to our bungalows to get settled. Lunch will follow.

CAIMÁN POND

Once we settle down, our specialised tour guide will guide you along an impressive trail to the Caimán Pond, a small lake with an abundant population of Black Caiman (Melanosuchus Niger) and Caiman (Caiman crocodilus).

At the end of the evening, you will witness the spectacular sunset in the Amazon, an experience full of intensity and colours.

Upon our return to the Lodge, a delicious dinner will wait for us. Then, you will enjoy your free time at the bar with an excellent game room and all the tropical drinks you can imagine.

The morning begins with the sound of beautiful birdsongs from the Amazon Paradise. A hearty breakfast will provide the energy for a morning full of new experiences.

LOST POND

After breakfast, we will start our adventure to the virgin rainforest. Accompanied by a local guide, we will hike deep into the jungle to reach the Lost Pond, which serves as a refuge and feeding ground for a wide variety of animals. There, we will have the chance to observe Otters, Caimans, Turtles, Sachavacas (Tapirs), Birds with multi-coloured feathers, the majestic Jaguar and a variety of fish species. This area is unique and proper to the EcoAmazonia’s Ecological Reserve, which maintains it intact, with huge swamps and diverse “aguajales”.

Then we will reach the extraordinary Observation Deck, from which we can appreciate the immense and magical rainforest. Afterwards, we will have a pleasant canoe ride around the lake and will return to the Lodge for lunch.

MONKEY ISLAND

In the afternoon, accompanied by our specialised guide, we will visit Monkey Island, which represents a unique place in the heart of the Madre de Dios River. The Monkey Island is five minutes away from the Lodge. During the hike, we will observe extraordinary landscapes, exuberant flora and fauna and a variety of monkey species living in their natural habitat. We will be able to see Maquisapas, Capuchins, Small Lion Monkeys, Frailes, Cotos, and other animals such as Coatis and Sloths, as well as a great variety of birds.

Finally, we will enjoy the most impressive sunset in the jungle. Back at the Lodge, we conclude the day with a pleasant dinner.

After a restful night’s sleep, the morning begins with the sound of beautiful birdsongs from the Amazon Paradise. In our dining room, a farewell breakfast is waiting for you before returning to Puerto Maldonado.
