Overview
Puerto Maldonado is known as Peru’s biodiversity capital. There are only a few places in the world with such a magical combination of vibrant forests, winding rivers and huge swamps formed in sustainable ecosystems called aguajales.
EcoAmazonia Lodge is located two hours from Puerto Maldonado. To reach the lodge, you will navigate by boat through the Madre de Dios River. It is located in the heart of the Amazon in Tambopata.
EcoAmazonia has 50 comfortable bungalows, which were designed and built with local materials while following standards of environmental and social responsibility.
Full Itinerary
Upon your arrival in Puerto Maldonado, Peru’s capital of biodiversity, we will welcome you to the airport. From there, we will begin our program with a bus ride around the city.
Afterwards, we will head to Puerto Capitanía to board a motorised riverboat and navigate along the Madre de Dios River to EcoAmazonia Lodge. During the journey, we may be fortunate to spot several exotic animal species — ronsocos, caimans, turtles, herons, and cormorants — in their natural environment.
Once we reach the lodge, we will be welcomed with an exquisite drink. We will then proceed to our bungalows to get settled. Lunch will follow.
CAIMÁN POND
Once we settle down, you will be conducted by our specialised tour guide through an impressive trail to the Caimán Pond, a small lake with an abundant presence of specimens of Black Caiman (Melanosuchus Niger) and Caiman (Caiman Crocodilus).
At the end of the evening, you will witness the spectacular sunset in the Amazon, an experience full of intensity and colours.
Upon our return to the Lodge, a delicious dinner will wait for us. Then, you will enjoy your free time. The bar is equipped with an excellent game room and all of the drinks you can imagine.
The morning begins with the sound of beautiful birdsongs from the Amazon Paradise. A hearty breakfast will provide the energy for a morning full of new experiences.
LOST POND
After breakfast, we will start our adventure to the virgin rainforest. Accompanied by a local guide, we will go on a hike in the deep jungle to get to the Lost Pond, which constitutes a refuge and feeding ecosystem for a vast variety of animals. There, we will have the chance to observe Otters, Caimans, Turtles, Sachavacas (Tapirs), Birds with multi-coloured feathers, the majestic Jaguar and a variety of fish species. This area is unique and proper to the EcoAmazonia’s Ecological Reserve, which maintains it intact, with huge swamps and diverse “aguajales”.
Then, we will get to the extraordinary Observation Deck, from which we will be able to appreciate the immense and magical rainforest. Afterwards, we will have a pleasant canoe ride around the lake and will return to the Lodge for lunch.
MONKEY ISLAND
In the afternoon, accompanied by our specialised guide, we will visit Monkey Island, which represents a unique place in the heart of the Madre de Dios River. The Monkey Island is located five minutes away from the Lodge. During the hike, we will observe extraordinary landscapes, exuberant flora and fauna and a variety of monkey species living in their natural habitat. We will be able to see Maquisapas, Capuchins, Small Lion Monkeys, Frailes, Cotos, and other animals like the Coati and Sloths, as well as a great variety of birds.
Finally, we will enjoy the sunset with the most impressive dusk in the jungle. Back at the Lodge, we conclude the day with a pleasant dinner.
After a restful night’s sleep, the morning begins with the sound of beautiful birdsongs from the Amazon Paradise. In our dining room, a farewell breakfast is waiting for you before returning to Puerto Maldonado.
