Overview

The Titicaca Lake is the highest navigable lake in the world (at 3856 m.a.s.l.). Its shores and islands, such as Amantani and Taquile, are home to the Aymaras and Quechuas, who are amongst Peru’s oldest people, predating the Incas by a thousand years. Here, visitors may wander through old traditional villages where Spanish is a second language and where ancient myths and beliefs are still held. Located near Puno, the famous Uros Islands are home to their inhabitants, who preserve their traditions and costumes in their handmade reed villages.

Full Itinerary

The tour begins at 07:15 am, when we will pick you up from your hotel or the bus terminal (07:00 – 07:30 am) and transport you to the local port, where we will take you by boat to the islands.

The tour spans two days and one night, beginning with a visit to the floating Uros Islands, followed by Amantani Island, where you can observe the pre-Inca temples dedicated to the fertility of the earth (Pachamama and Pachatata).

Located 35 minutes by boat from the port of Puno, the Uros Islands comprise a group of islands mostly made of reeds, which are also used to build houses and boats. The inhabitants of the "Uros" are very friendly and cordial with visitors.

Amantani, located 36 km from the port of Puno (three hours by boat), is an island composed of eight communities engaged in the cultivation of corn and quinoa, as well as crafts representative of their culture. This afternoon, you will hike to the top of the island called Pachatata, where you will enjoy breathtaking views and a unique sunset over a bright, colourful sky.
After descending, your host family will welcome you with a typical, delicious dinner. You then dress in local costumes and enjoy a party featuring the community's traditional dance, accompanied by your host family.

Meals: Lunch and dinner with the family
Accommodation: rustic accommodation with a host family

After a delicious breakfast with your host family, we will transfer you to the local harbour. From here, we will take a short boat ride to the shores of Taquile Island, where we will begin hiking to the main square, observing the local people, who are world-renowned for their intricate and fascinating weavings and community work. Amongst men, it is very easy to identify who is married, single or dating a female – just by the colours of their hat! Also, you will learn who is important on the island just by the items they wear. You will have lunch at one of the community restaurants, then take a boat to the local port and return to Puno. Arriving in Puno from 03:00 to 04:00 pm, we will finally transfer you to your hotel.
