Nazca Lines – Huacachina and Ballestas Island, from Cusco to Lima 3 Days/ 2 Nights

Overview
The Nazca culture left us with the mysterious Nazca Lines, a complex of zoomorphic, geometric or anthropomorphic drawings.
There are hundreds of these lines, geometrically marked on the earth’s surface. In a plane, you will gain altitude to enjoy views of the desert and appreciate the amazing Nazca Lines. The most prominent figure is more than 200 meters long. Significant questions about the builders’ intentions and skills remain unanswered.
Nearby, you will also discover the pre-Inca Cemetery of Chauchilla, where the original mummies of the Nazca people,
The Nazca people were experts in agriculture, engineering underground water systems, locating underground rivers, and bringing the water to the surface, which they called aqueducts. You will be able to see them.
You will also visit the ceramic workshop.
You will spend one night in the Oasis of America and visit Ballestas Island, known as the small Galapagos, where you will discover various kinds of sea birds, sea lions, and the Humboldt Penguin. The Ballestas Islands, aside from their great sea life, will amaze you with their hundreds of beautifully shaped caves and arches, carved by wind and erosion over hundreds of years. You will also enjoy a fantastic view of one of the ancient Nazca Lines, the “Candelabro”, carved into the slope of the peninsula’s hills.
Full Itinerary
We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 4:00 pm and take you to the Cruz Del Sur private bus station. The overnight bus from Cusco will leave at 5:00 pm and arrive at Nazca at 7:30 am the following day.
The bus seat has a 160-degree inclination, allowing you to sleep comfortably. Also, the company provides a pillow and a small blanket for the long ride.
You will arrive in Nazca by bus at 07:30 am (from Arequipa). Our representative in Nazca is Liliana Hamani. She will be waiting for you at the bus terminal and will then transfer you to a restaurant, should you wish to have breakfast. Most people prefer to eat something light before a flight.
Between 8:00 and 8:30 am, we will transfer you to the Nazca Aerodrome for your flight over the mysterious Nazca Lines. Flying over these enigmatic “pampas” for approximately 35 minutes, you will discover the huge designs that were drawn, maybe hundreds of years ago, by some ancient Peruvians.
You will be able to observe the most important ones, such as the monkey, spider, hummingbird, and the long, perfect Nazca Lines.
Afterwards, to complete your experience in Nazca, you will visit the pre-Inca cemetery of Chauchilla, where you can observe the burial grounds of the old Nazcas. Most of these tombs are original and have mummies,
The tour continues with a visit to the Aqueducts of Cantalloc to observe hydraulic engineering and how the Nazca people extracted sweet water from the phreatic cap, also called underground rivers; the Paredones Inca archaeological site; and workshops, where you will see how a modern Nazca descender makes their beautiful, colourful pottery. You will receive explanations of the ancient art of ceramic manufacturing, developed during the Nazca Civilisation.
After all this excitement, we will stop at Liliana´s restaurant for dinner. Then, we will pick up your luggage and transfer you to the bus terminal for your bus to Huacachina.
Ciro Arroyo will tell you about optional activities in the dunes, such as buggy tours and sandboarding.
Accommodation: DM hotels
Our agent, Ciro Arroyo, will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to Paracas town, then to Chaco harbour, where you will board the speedboat around 8:00 am. And off you go, on your journey to the Ballestas Islands. On the way, we will make a short stop to observe the Candelabro, one of the Nazca lines, carved into the slope of a surrounding hill facing the Pacific Ocean.
A few stories about Candelabro’s origins and his imposing position have survived over time and erosion. It is proof of the excellent knowledge and high engineering of its constructors.
After a few minutes of navigating, you will start to spot some groups of sea birds, flying or swimming right beside you, and welcoming you to the rocky island formation. The Ballestas Islands have been shaped by the strong winds of the Humboldt Current, creating caves and arches that are now a shelter for sea lions and many seabirds, such as pelicans, boobies, red-footed Guanay cormorants, and Humboldt Penguins.
Early in the 20th century, people began collecting guano (bird droppings) from this area and selling it as fertiliser. Due to the vast quantities of this valuable substance, it became a significant source of revenue for coastal businesses. The Ballestas Islands are part of the Paracas National Wildlife Reserve, which is why it’s not allowed to descend from the boats during the Tour. Anyway, you will be able to observe all these species up close, and if you are lucky, you will even see the Andean Condor or dolphins.
After this majestic visit, you will navigate back to the Chaco harbour and get ready to continue your bus to Lima at 12:10, arriving in the early afternoon.
Note: Setting foot on the Islands is forbidden, as they are a protected ecological area. This Tour is conducted exclusively on the speedboat. Please bring a wind jacket; it can be chilly in the morning.

What Our Clients Say
Excellent rating
Based on 94 reviewsVerified Great experience to see many sites in Peru! A big thanks to Leo for a wonderfully planned trip. There was always a driver waiting for us when we landed - after some long days it helps to not have to worry about one more thing! Leo made many of the arrangements for us in Arequipa, Puno, Cusco, Ollantaytambo, and Lima. Hotels were good to great - their staff always friendly and ready to help. Leo arranged for our guides and one in particular, Alex, proved to be an outstanding guide in Sacred Valley. Alex's English was perfect, he knew his history and sites extremely well, and did a great job in guiding the 6 of us on our a daylong hike up the Inca trail. And Leo always had wonderful recommendations for restaurants and other things to do. Thank you! Roxane BVerified A Flawlessly Organized and Unforgettable Peru Adventure My sister recently organized our trip to Peru with Roland, and it was absolutely fantastic. He dotted all the i’s and crossed all the t’s, making the whole experience seamless. The trip was wonderfully diverse, with excursions throughout Peru that gave us an incredible apperçu of the country and its sites. Highly recommended! Renee BVerified No podes ir a Río sin alguna vez parar sobre Copacabana! Mortal.. Estuve en Rio frente al mar en Copacabana. Me encanto! Gente durante todo el día! Y si te animas visita la Rozhina con un local, obvio! Go03529326781Verified Personalized adventure of a lifetime We took a personalized trip to Cusco, Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu with Green Peru Adventures. Leo, the owner of Green Peru Adventures, listened to all my ideas and planned an excellent trip for us! We had an amazing and safe driver, Willie, to take us on all the scheduled tours throughout Cusco and the Sacred Valley. He was there, on time, and got us safely to all our destinations with no problems. Our tour guide, Freddie, was knowledgeable, entertaining, patient, and just great to hang around with! Hiram was an excellent tour guide for our Machu Picchu adventure! He had so much knowledge about all the ins and outs of the Citadel and provided us with interesting stories and life during Incan times. Really, this great trip could not have been successful without the great design from Leo, the owner of Green Peru Adventures. Thank you so much for making this once in a lifetime trip so incredible! krwalker77Verified Overall good - but mixed experience with sub-contractors Booked the 2-day tour from Puno to Arequipa via Colca Canyon. Unfortunately Green Peru Adventures is just an Agent and not actually delivering the service - so having them one step removed added to the difficulties. We were not informed that one provider (Nativa Express) would be coordinating the first half day, and then we would be handed over to Giardino Tours for the remaining day and a half. Nativa Express were appalling. They were half hour late for pickup - which ordinarily is fine but there was no communication. Our “Guide” didn’t talk to us the whole journey until we were offloaded at a remote ‘Crossroads (like a roadhouse) and told we had to wait for another driver. First we’d heard of this!!! Other driver was running late but our Nativa Guide didn’t have their number! After half hour she took off in another van leaving us in the hands of the Nativa bus driver. However the moment she was out of sight he drove off leaving us abandoned in the middle of nowhere! We were to be tranferred to Giardino Tours, and at this point the only saving grace was another driver and guide from that company reaching out and assuring us that they’d been in contact with our Giardino guide and exactly how long the would be. From then on, our tour was amazing!! 5-stars to Guardino Tours!! But next time we will book with them directly. baafreoVerified Cusco, Valle sagrado, Machu Picchu, montaña de colores Roland (Leo) hizo de nuestro viaje a Cusco una experiencia placentera. G- PVerified Great experience! My husband and I just came back from our trip to Peru, and we are very satisfied with the services provided by Green Peru Adventures. The Green Peru Adventures staff was professional since the beginning. They were well organized, always punctual, helpful, and friendly. They created a customized package for us and another couple (friends of ours) that included all the activities and private tours that we wanted to experience while we were in Peru. The staff answered all our questions in a timely manner through What’s App, and was very accommodating to our requests. There was an internal issue with the hotel that we had first booked, but Roland, our main point of contact, was proactive and fixed everything before we got there. Alex and Favio, our tour guides in Cusco and Machu Picchu, respectively, were very nice and knowledgeable. Julio, our driver, was always punctual and drove us safely to all our destinations. Thank you, Green Peru Adventures! We had a great experience in Peru thanks to your team. We would use your services again in the future, and recommend to our friends and family <3. Xochitl BVerified Feeling comfortable I'm from the UK, I was very apprehensive about just arriving in Peru on my own and booking a tour with a tour company that I know nothing about. Being in the middle of the desert in Peru with a complete stranger is quite daunting. However, Leo (Roland) was very helpful, always available via whatsapp to answer questions and responding to my requests for confirmation etc. I booked a tour from Puno to Arequipa with a one night stay in Chivay for Colca canyon. Everything was very smooth, I felt comfortable straight away. Very professional tour guide and driver, nice new buses to travel in. Nice accomodation etc. I would definately use again. I usually like more than 5 reviews before I use a company, but this one I recommend, I'm not biased, I just feel the need to write a good review. Mjohnson51Verified Two day tour Colca Canyon from Puno to Arequipa We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 day tour of the Colca Canyon from Puno with Giardino Tours/Green Peru Adventures. We we were picked up in Puno, stayed overnight close to Chivay, toured the Colca Canyon and surrounding area the next day and were driven on to Arequipa after that. Our guide Elar (Giardino Tours) was excellent. He was very knowledgeable, and thoughtful and accommodating in planning our itinerary. We made many interesting stops along the way over the 2 days. It was a great way to see the Canyon and travel between Puno and Arequipa.
