Overview
The Colca Valley is a colourful Andean valley with many small towns founded during the Spanish colonial times. where the Collaguas and Cabanas peoples still live, maintaining ancestral traditions and continuing to cultivate the pre-Inca stepped terraces.
The name Colca refers to small mud-and-stone granaries built into the cliffs of the valley and the Canyon. People used their repositories during the Inca and pre-Inca periods to store food such as potatoes, quinoa, and other Andean crops. The Incas used tombs for important people.
Full Itinerary
Your journey begins at 7:15 am to 7.45 am, when a private bus picks you up from your hotel. We will take the road to Yura, heading towards the beautiful Colca Valley. You will travel along this road, which is half asphalted and half unfinished sand, for 4 hours towards your first night’s destination. The 4-hour trip is not direct and leads us through some of the local area’s most important places! The first stop will be at the National Reserve of Agua Blanca and Salinas, a place where you can observe the famous vicuñas and the great volcanoes of Arequipa.
Before approaching the National Reserve of “Pampa Cañahuas”, we will make a short stop to observe the wild Vicuñas (one of the four types of American camels) in their natural habitat. At this point, we will be at about 3400 m.a.s.l. Moving on, we will arrive at the “Pata Wasi” (Pata=high, Wasi=home), an Andean community at the opposite border of the reserve.
We will then continue our journey to our third stop, the restaurant El Chino. Here, you can appreciate the ”stone wood” formations, use the bathrooms, and enjoy a coca tea, which is very good for your stomach and the altitude.
From here, we will pass “Tocra”, a high plain at 4500 meters, where we will observe migrant birds at stunning lakes and get pictures of the “Antiplano” with its Llamas and Guanacos. The highest point of our tour will be “Pata Pampa” at 4820 meters, from where we can observe the volcanoes Ampato, Sabancaya, Hualca-Hualca, Misti (the source of the Amazon River), and the “Cordillera Chila”. As we approach the town of Chivay, we will enjoy some spectacular views of the multicoloured terraces of the Colca Valley.
After lunch, you will have some free time to visit the Chivay market before we drive you to your hotel. In the afternoon, you will see the hot springs, where you can take a bath in one of the pools with water temperatures ranging from 35 to 40°C, and at 80°C at the source. Enjoy the warm, natural water and the lovely outdoor pools, surrounded by the vast mountains. After sunset, return to the hotel to order dinner. (In case you want to stay at the Colca Lodge Hotel after lunch and enjoy its hot pool, please coordinate a pick-up time for the second day of the tour with your guide!)
Accommodation: Hotel La Casa de Mama Yacchi
We will have breakfast very early in the morning, then leave for the famous “Cruz del Condor” lookout point. Upon arrival, you will have enough time to enjoy the breathtaking view of the deep Canyon and, if the weather permits, observe the majestic flight of the Condors.
After a coordinated time, our guide will take you for a short walk near the Canyon (approx. 1 hour). On our way back to Chivay, we’re going to visit the traditional village of Pinchollo and the “Antahuilque viewpoint,” from which we can observe the wonderful 1,500-year-old terraces, which the Collaguas once constructed. This culture existed well before the Incas. We will also stop at the lookout point “Choquetico,” with its hanging tombs “Tumbas colgantes,” and take a look at the litomaqueta, a model of the canyon terraces carved into rock. We will continue our journey by visiting Maca, an Andean community that experienced an earthquake in November 1991, and the village of Yanque, home to the most beautiful church in the valley.
Afterwards, we arrive in Chivay to have lunch and explore the town. You will have some time to relax at your hotel before the rest of the day is free for personal activities such as hiking, horse riding, or biking (not included in the package, but we can organise it for you if you would like).
Accommodation: Hotel La Casa de Mama Yacchi
After an early breakfast at your hotel, you will start your journey to Cusco at 06:15 am. We will head to the upper Colca Valley, where we will pass through traditional villages such as Tuti and Sibayo. Around 08:00 am, we will stop to appreciate the impressive Castles of Callalli (rock formations that resemble medieval castles, formed by erosion from water and wind). At 10:00 am, we will pass near the “Condoroma Dam” at 4737 meters. At approximately 10:30 am, we will make another stop to observe the “Stone Forest” in the area of Yauri (a traditional village), and then continue to Cusco. We will make a stop at the “Laguna de Langui”, a magnificent natural mirror with a length of 25 Km. Then we will arrive in Sicuani, where we will stop for 50 minutes for lunch at a typical restaurant. We will then continue our travel, driving through Andahuaylillas and Urcos, arriving in the imperial city of Cusco at approximately 4:00 pm.

What Our Clients Say
Excellent rating
Based on 94 reviewsVerified Great experience to see many sites in Peru! A big thanks to Leo for a wonderfully planned trip. There was always a driver waiting for us when we landed - after some long days it helps to not have to worry about one more thing! Leo made many of the arrangements for us in Arequipa, Puno, Cusco, Ollantaytambo, and Lima. Hotels were good to great - their staff always friendly and ready to help. Leo arranged for our guides and one in particular, Alex, proved to be an outstanding guide in Sacred Valley. Alex's English was perfect, he knew his history and sites extremely well, and did a great job in guiding the 6 of us on our a daylong hike up the Inca trail. And Leo always had wonderful recommendations for restaurants and other things to do. Thank you! Roxane BVerified A Flawlessly Organized and Unforgettable Peru Adventure My sister recently organized our trip to Peru with Roland, and it was absolutely fantastic. He dotted all the i’s and crossed all the t’s, making the whole experience seamless. The trip was wonderfully diverse, with excursions throughout Peru that gave us an incredible apperçu of the country and its sites. Highly recommended! Renee BVerified No podes ir a Río sin alguna vez parar sobre Copacabana! Mortal.. Estuve en Rio frente al mar en Copacabana. Me encanto! Gente durante todo el día! Y si te animas visita la Rozhina con un local, obvio! Go03529326781Verified Personalized adventure of a lifetime We took a personalized trip to Cusco, Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu with Green Peru Adventures. Leo, the owner of Green Peru Adventures, listened to all my ideas and planned an excellent trip for us! We had an amazing and safe driver, Willie, to take us on all the scheduled tours throughout Cusco and the Sacred Valley. He was there, on time, and got us safely to all our destinations with no problems. Our tour guide, Freddie, was knowledgeable, entertaining, patient, and just great to hang around with! Hiram was an excellent tour guide for our Machu Picchu adventure! He had so much knowledge about all the ins and outs of the Citadel and provided us with interesting stories and life during Incan times. Really, this great trip could not have been successful without the great design from Leo, the owner of Green Peru Adventures. Thank you so much for making this once in a lifetime trip so incredible! krwalker77Verified Overall good - but mixed experience with sub-contractors Booked the 2-day tour from Puno to Arequipa via Colca Canyon. Unfortunately Green Peru Adventures is just an Agent and not actually delivering the service - so having them one step removed added to the difficulties. We were not informed that one provider (Nativa Express) would be coordinating the first half day, and then we would be handed over to Giardino Tours for the remaining day and a half. Nativa Express were appalling. They were half hour late for pickup - which ordinarily is fine but there was no communication. Our “Guide” didn’t talk to us the whole journey until we were offloaded at a remote ‘Crossroads (like a roadhouse) and told we had to wait for another driver. First we’d heard of this!!! Other driver was running late but our Nativa Guide didn’t have their number! After half hour she took off in another van leaving us in the hands of the Nativa bus driver. However the moment she was out of sight he drove off leaving us abandoned in the middle of nowhere! We were to be tranferred to Giardino Tours, and at this point the only saving grace was another driver and guide from that company reaching out and assuring us that they’d been in contact with our Giardino guide and exactly how long the would be. From then on, our tour was amazing!! 5-stars to Guardino Tours!! But next time we will book with them directly. baafreoVerified Cusco, Valle sagrado, Machu Picchu, montaña de colores Roland (Leo) hizo de nuestro viaje a Cusco una experiencia placentera. G- PVerified Great experience! My husband and I just came back from our trip to Peru, and we are very satisfied with the services provided by Green Peru Adventures. The Green Peru Adventures staff was professional since the beginning. They were well organized, always punctual, helpful, and friendly. They created a customized package for us and another couple (friends of ours) that included all the activities and private tours that we wanted to experience while we were in Peru. The staff answered all our questions in a timely manner through What’s App, and was very accommodating to our requests. There was an internal issue with the hotel that we had first booked, but Roland, our main point of contact, was proactive and fixed everything before we got there. Alex and Favio, our tour guides in Cusco and Machu Picchu, respectively, were very nice and knowledgeable. Julio, our driver, was always punctual and drove us safely to all our destinations. Thank you, Green Peru Adventures! We had a great experience in Peru thanks to your team. We would use your services again in the future, and recommend to our friends and family <3. Xochitl BVerified Feeling comfortable I'm from the UK, I was very apprehensive about just arriving in Peru on my own and booking a tour with a tour company that I know nothing about. Being in the middle of the desert in Peru with a complete stranger is quite daunting. However, Leo (Roland) was very helpful, always available via whatsapp to answer questions and responding to my requests for confirmation etc. I booked a tour from Puno to Arequipa with a one night stay in Chivay for Colca canyon. Everything was very smooth, I felt comfortable straight away. Very professional tour guide and driver, nice new buses to travel in. Nice accomodation etc. I would definately use again. I usually like more than 5 reviews before I use a company, but this one I recommend, I'm not biased, I just feel the need to write a good review. Mjohnson51Verified Two day tour Colca Canyon from Puno to Arequipa We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 day tour of the Colca Canyon from Puno with Giardino Tours/Green Peru Adventures. We we were picked up in Puno, stayed overnight close to Chivay, toured the Colca Canyon and surrounding area the next day and were driven on to Arequipa after that. Our guide Elar (Giardino Tours) was excellent. He was very knowledgeable, and thoughtful and accommodating in planning our itinerary. We made many interesting stops along the way over the 2 days. It was a great way to see the Canyon and travel between Puno and Arequipa.
