Overview
As we operate the Huchuy Qosqo Cultural Trek ourselves, we have available departure dates for the whole year. Indeed, if you prefer to join a group,
Here are our confirmed reservations for departure dates …….
Did you miss the classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu? Well, you don’t have to worry about it, because Cusco itself has more than one Inca Trail! We invite you to join one of the sections of the original Inca Trail, starting at the main Plaza de Armas of Cusco, the same starting point as the Incas’ pilgrimage to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.
This path offers fantastic views of landscapes, lagoons, lama shepherds, potato fields, and the majestic Inca citadel of Huchuy Qosco (small Cusco City), from where you can see all of the Sacred Valley of the Incas and the most important Apus (sacred mountains). Huchuy Qosco used to be the capital city before Cusco. This citadel is well-organised, featuring a central plaza, avenues, palaces, temples, storage houses (Tambos), guardian houses, and new excavations.

Full Itinerary
Our adventure begins with a 06:00 am pickup from your hotel, followed by a transfer to the Quenqo X-Zone. From here, we start our hike following the Inca Trail, arriving at the pass of Cencca (4200 m.a.s.l.) shortly after. We will enjoy a spectacular view of Cusco and then continue our hike in the flat area of the highland around Cusco (Puna).
Along this undulating trail, you will have the opportunity to observe local people, their homes, and potato fields, while also learning about their lifestyle and agricultural practices, including Crop Rotation. Also, we will enjoy great views over the lagoons of Chinchero, Wila Wila, Queulla Cocha, and Kori Cocha. As we trek to the highest point of our journey, the Huchuy Qosco Pass at 4400 m, we will encounter many llama shepherds and farmers. From there, we will begin our descent to our campsite at Pumamarca, where we will spend the night among the ruins.
This day, we wake up early to enjoy the sunrise over the Andes! After breakfast, we begin our hike to the Inca control gate, which leads us through a small, narrow canyon. This path offers an extraordinary view, including a small bridge crossing a great river with waterfalls. After crossing the canyon, we will be able to see how the landscape changes from dry hills into a forest (microclimate). We then continue our descent along the river to Huchuy Qosco, our leading destination, traversing the mountain with its beautiful snow carpets and enjoying an incredible view over the Sacred Valley.
After taking in all this beautiful scenery, we will arrive at Huchuy Qosco and explore the citadel, where your tour guide will explain the most essential features. Afterwards, we will have some time to relax, to enjoy a little snack, or explore the Inca site by ourselves.
We then continue to descend to Lamay, a small town in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, where we will have our last lunch before taking the bus back to Cusco or to Ollantaytambo.
