The Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the World at 3856 meters above sea level. Its shores and islands, such as Amantani and Taquile, are home to the Aymaras and Quechuas, who are amongst Peru’s oldest peoples, predating the Incas by a thousand years.

Here visitors may wander through old traditional villages where Spanish is a second language and where ancient myths and beliefs still hold true. Also is located close to Puno and nearby are the famous Uros Floating Islands whose inhabitants preserve their traditions and costumes on their handmade reed floating villages.

Itinerary

Day 1
The tour begins at 7:45 am where we will pick you up from your hotel or from the bus terminal (7 to 7:30 am), transported to the local city port where you will be shipped by boat bound for the islands. On arrival we will visit three of the islands meeting their people who explain their daily life and deeply rooted customs.
Uros Floating Island

Located 35 minutes by boat from the port of Puno, this comprises of a group of islands mostly made of reeds which is also used to make houses and boats, inhabited by the “Uros” people who are very friendly and cordial with visitors.Taquile Island

Located four hours from the port of Puno by boat this is one of the favorite destinations for visitors, especially renowned for its beautiful scenery. If you reach the central square of the island you can walk uphill for about an hour, then enjoy a delicious lunch and afterwards continue the walk down the stairs of Taquile which has 535 stone steps.

The tour includes a full day, starting with a visit to the Uros Island, then a visit to the Taquile Island, enjoying the colorful clothing of its habitats that makes Taquile famous and a cultural heritage of mankind.

Note: please do not give candies or lollies to the kids on the islands. They really appreciate oranges and other fruit as it is impossible to grow on the islands in these altitudes and it will save their teeth and their environment.
