Did you miss the classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, well you don’t have to worry about it, because Cusco itself has more than one Inca trail. We invite you to join the hike of one of the sections of the original Inca trial to Machu Picchu, starting at the main Plaza de Armas of Cusco, the same starting point as the Inca’s pilgrimage to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.</p>
This path offers amazing views of the landscapes, lagoons, lama shepherds, potato fields and the majestic Inca citadel of Huchuy Qosco (small Cusco city), from where you can see all of the Sacred Valley of the Incas and the most important Apus (sacred mountains) Huchuy Qosco which used to be the capital city before Cusco. This Citadel is well organised with a main Plaza and also avenues, palaces and temples, storage houses (tambos), guardian houses and also new excavations.
We start our hike in the plaza of Cusco and then follow the north Inca trail in the direction of Machu Picchu passing through the neighbourhood of San Blas and ascending to Quenqo to the X zone. Then following the Inca trail, we ascend by the narrow Inca trail with a spectacular view of Cusco city, arriving at the pass of Cencca (4,200 m. above sea level) from where we have our final view of the Cusco city and start to hike in the flat area of the high land around Cusco (puna). On this undulating trail we will be able to see local people, houses, potatoes field and you will be briefed about the way of agricultural practices such as Crop Rotation and the lifestyles of the local people. Also we will have views of lagoons of Chinchero, Wila Wila, Queulla Cocha and Kori Cocha, on our ascent also meeting the lama shepherds and farmers till the highest point in our trek, the Huchuy Cosco Pass at 4,400 m., from where we start to descend to our camp site Puca Marca spending the night at the ruins.
We wake up early to enjoy the sun rise over the Andes and after breakfast we start to walk to the control Inca gate that bring us to a small narrow canyon offering a bizarre view, passing by a small bridge over a river with waterfalls.
After the canyon we will be able to see how landscape changes from the dry hills into a forest (micro climate). Then we keep descending by the river down to Hucuy Qosco, our main destination, traversing the mountain and observing the sacred valley and the tropical snow carpets.
After all this beautiful scenery we will arrive to Huchuy Qosco, and explore the citadel with your tour guide to explaining to you the most important features.
Then we will have some time to relax, enjoy a little snack or you can go off and explore by yourself.
After this we continue our descent to the Sacred Valley of the Incas to a small town of Lamay where we will have our last lunch before taking our bus to Cusco or Ollaytantambo (in the case of continuing to Machu Picchu).
