Puerto Maldonado is known as the Biodiversity capital of Peru. There are few places in the natural world with such a magical combination of vibrant forests, winding rivers and huge swamps formed in sustainable ecosystems called aguajales.
Ecoamazonia Lodge is located two hours from Puerto Maldonado. To reach the lodge, you will navigate by boat through the Madre de Dios River. It is located in the heart of the Amazon in Tambopata.
Ecoamazonia has 50 comfortable bungalows which were designed and built with local materials while following standards of environmental and social responsibility.
Welcome / Reception
Upon your arrival in Puerto Maldonado, Peru’s capital city of biodiversity, you will be welcomed at the airport. From there, you will begin our program with a bus ride around the city.
Afterwards, you will head to Puerto Capitanía to board a motorized riverboat and navigate along the Madre de Dios River to EcoAmazonia Lodge. During the journey,youe may be fortunate enough to spot a number of exotic animal species ronsocos, caimans, turtles, herons, coromonts in their natural environment.
Once you reach the lodge, you will be welcomed with an exquisite drink. You will then proceed to your bungalow and get settled. Lunch will follow.
Led by your specialized guide, you will begin the tour with an impressive trail to Caimán Cocha, a small lake with an abundance of black caiman (Melanosuchus niger) and caiman (Caiman crocodilus) specimens.
At the end of the evening, you will witness a spectacular Amazonian sunset — an intense and colorful experience.
A delicious dinner will await you at the lodge. You’ll have some free time afterwards, so enjoy a drink at the bar and spend some time in the excellent game room!
You’ll wake up to the beautiful singing of Amazonian birds. A hearty breakfast will provide the energy for a stimulating morning.
LAKE APU VICTOR
After breakfast, you will begin your hike toward the depths of the forest on trails with specially created bridges for crossing gorges and rivers. Along the way, you will pass the flooded forest and a variety of flora and wildlife. You will then arrive at the majestic, crystal waters of Lake Apu Victor, surrounded by marshes and giant trees.
Afterwards, you’ll head to the Observation Deck, from which you’ll have a panoramic view of the lake and its inhabitants: parrots, macaws, toucans, camungos, shanshos, herons, caimans, turtles, etc. We may even have a chance to observe the giant otter — one of the rainforest’s most spectacular animals.
After several hours, you will return to the lodge to enjoy lunch.
In the afternoon, accompanied by your specialized guide, you will visit Monkey Island, a unique place in the heart of Madre de Dios River. Monkey Island is located five minutes from the Lodge. During the hike we will observe extraordinary landscapes, an exuberant flora and a variety of monkey species living in their natural habitat. We will be able to see Maquisapas, Capuchins, Small Lion Monkeys, Frailes, Cotos and other animals like the Coati and Sloths and a great variety of birds.
Finally we will enjoying the sunset with the most impressive dusk in the jungle. Back at the lodge we conclude the day with a pleasant dinner.
After a restful night’s sleep, the morning begins with the sound of beautiful birdsongs from the Amazon Paradise. In our dining room awaits a farewell breakfast before returning to Puerto Maldonado.
