This tour is a combination of the City tour, Sacred Valley, and the adventure hiking of Lares Valley trek to Machu Picchu 4 days 3 nights, this tour gives you the opportunity of enjoy the enigmatic city of Cusco and the Sacred Valley, plus the amazing people live around here, also the colourful costumes of the Andean people, you will have the opportunity to get close to them and even share meal and activities, the hiking goes true small villages where you can observe their day living, also you will hike on an original lama path, meeting very often group of Lamas caring trade supplies to small villages among the Lares Valley and up the mountains.

All the beautiful landscapes of the Andes and down to Sacred Valley to get the train to Aguas Calientes, descending from the Andes down to cloud forest where is located Machu Picchu. Combined with the charms of 3 nights in Hosteria de Anita (upgrade hotel if is needed) it is a perfect way to see Cusco as you are in the safe tourist district of San Blas from where you can explore the most beautiful combination of Inca and Colonial architecture with a perfect location to reach everything you might need as souvenir shop and museums.

Itinerary

Day 1

Cusco Excursion – City Tour

Reception in Cusco airport and Transfer to Amaru Group Hostels we recommend you get an early flight so you can spend the morning relaxing and acclimatising to the altitude (in case you are arriving from sea level)!!

In the afternoon, the city tour of Cusco will give you the opportunity to discover the enigma of this marvellous city and the surrounding archaeological sites.
We pick you up from your hotel and bring you to the main Plaza de Armas at 1:30 pm, where you will meet you travel mates (in case of shared service). We start by visiting the main cathedral of Cusco where you can observe the colonial architecture and amazing paintings of the Cusqueña school (well known for its religious iconography painted by Cuscqueños)
Afterwards we take you to Koricancha (golden palace) and Santo Domingo convent. Here is a perfect example of the fusion of Inca and Christian cultures.

After your tour, we will take the bus and drive to the impressive Inca fortress of Saqsaywoman, where the rocks used to construct the site will amaze you, some of them weighing more than 300 tons.

The tour continues with the discovery of the underground temple of Quenqo, (labyrinth) with impressive rock carvings and tunnels carved into the solid rock. This religious temple dedicated to the worship of mother earth.
After a few minutes ride we will see a small fortress of Puka Pukara (red fortress) used as military control gate as entrance to Cusco. Walking few minutes we will arrive at Tambomachay (water temple), temple dedicated to worship the water and fertility. We return to Cusco at the end of the day, if you want, you can ask your tour guide to stop at one of the souvenir shops on way back.

Day 2

Sacred Valley of the Incas

The Sacred Valley tour starts in Cusco at 8:00 am. We pick you up from your hotel and bring you to the bus, where you will meet your tour guide and your travel mates (shared service). We leave Cusco around 8:30 am in direction of Pisaq, descending to the Sacred River Urubamba. With a few stops along the way at various lookout points, we will arrive at Pisaq town, where you can enjoy browsing around the traditional handicraft market of Pisaq with enough time for local souvenir shopping. Afterwards we drive up the mountain where Pisaqs ruins are located.

Our tour guide will take you around temples, terraces, tunnels of this complex all the time enjoying the majestic view of the Sacred River and also the Intihuatana (sun clock).Then we drive among the Sacred River passing by a colourful little town, where you can observe the descendants of the Quechua people wearing colourful ponchos.
We stop in Urubamba town to take a lunch (we recommend a buffet lunch of Peruvian food)

After a short rest we keep going until we reach Ollantaytambo, one of the last living Inca town. You will be amazed by the living Inca town, the impressive temple of the Sun, the intricate detail of the stone work, the terraces constructed to sustain the mountain and discover the shape of a lama on the total temple.You will have short time to explore by yourself this amazing complex, with its beautiful water fountains.After exploring this magnificent complex, we take the road back to Urubamba and leave the river to go up to the beautiful fields of Chinchero, discovering again another amazing Inca Spanish complex, lastly visiting a weaving family, who still using natural minerals and organic ink to colour the wool. We will return to Cusco around 7:00 pm, to plaza Regocijo.

Day 3

Cusco – Quishuarani (Lares) – Hot springs

Pick up is at 3:30 am and departure is from Cusco is at 4:00 am in the direction of Sacred Valley of the Incas passing by the colorful town of Calca and a ride up to Cordillera Alto Urubamba to the town of Qushuarani, where we have our wake up tea, afterwards we start to walk for 1.5 hours uphill where we are going to reach a viewpoint (3850 meter above the sea level) where we will have our main breakfast.With an amazing view of the lagoon of Qeullacocha and the snow carpet that surrounds the lagoon, we will also spot lamas and alpacas, on the way, and if we are lucky we will also see the majestic flight of the Condor.

Then we keep going uphill for approximately 2 hours to reach the first highest pass at 4400 m. (Qolqe crus) from where you can see lagoons produced by melt water of the snow carpets. After this we will descend to Cuncani, a small local community, where we will observe a beautiful waterfall formed by cold waterstreams whose source originates from the melt water of the glaziers. We then reach Cuncani at noon where we will have our lunch (lunchbox).After a little rest we get ready to continue walking down for about 3 hrs to Lares hot springs, descending to 3,400m enjoying the changing scenery and climate. We will be amazed by the view of the Lares Valley ending our hike in the relaxing hot springs of Lares where we will camp and spend the night.

Day 4

Lares– Wakawasi – Mantanay 3900 masl

We wake up early to take our breakfast and prepare ourselves for an amazing day of the hike where we will reach the highest point 4,600 m. (higher than the death woman pass on the classic Inca trail to Machu Picchu).

After our early breakfast we start to hit the road, among the Lares Valley for few hours on a slow ascending path to the highest pass (Urope Pass) stopping by some small local families on the way, to share some supplies. We will observe their day living and even be welcomed into their houses to learn about Andean life, observing the preservation of Inca costumes and traditions.

We keep ascending for a short time till the Urope pass from where we will be able to observe the lagoon of the same name and part of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, a large extension of the Lares Valley.

We will have a short rest here and afterwards start our descent to the camp site at Mantanay, (3,900 m.) where we will have our diner and share a macho tea, before hitting the sack.

Day 5

Mantanay – Ynahuara – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes

Early wake up and breakfast and we start to descend around 4 hours to Yanahuara in the Sacred Valley, on the way observing the flora of the area including one of the main native trees of the area Queu. We then reach the Sacred Valley around noon and have lunch, afterwards transferring to Ollantaytambo where we take the train to Aguas Calientes.In the afternoon you will have free time to explore Aguas Calientes and enjoy a dip in the hot springs.

Day 6

Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu Sanctuary – Aguas Calientes -Ollantaytambo – Cusco
The day you were waiting for!

You will take our breakfast, very early in the morning. Then we start our last day by climbing up to the entrance of the famous Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas. Avoiding the crowds, you will be one of the first visitors of the day. Your bilingual tour guide will take you around the vast ruins for about 3hrs, comprehensively explaining its historical significance and place in the Inca Empire. After this you have some free time to wander around. Machu Picchu is the best known of the Inca ruins, as it is recognized worldwide yet it is not mentioned in any of the writings of the Spanish Conquistadors. It is believed to have been constructed around the mid-15th century and was rediscovered by American historian Hiram Bingham in 1911.

The guided tour of this fascinating place is an unforgettable experience. Visit the Main Square, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Circular Towers, the Sacred Sun Dial and Burial Grounds. After the excursion you can hike up the mountain behind Machu Picchu Huayna Picchu where you will have stunning views over the whole complex! However there are only 400 persons per day allowed, therefore you must let us know in advance. This, we have to book it when we reserve your tour and has a cost of US$ 10.00 plus. Due Huayna Pucchu is very fast oversold, we are offering Machu Picchu Mountain as a second optional climbing. The adventage of this hike is that its less crowed, but not less beautiful. The cost fot this climb are also US$ 10.00 per person.

Optional unguided walks include Inti Punku, the SUN GATE the traditional end of the Inca Trail, duration 45 min. and the Inca Bridge, duration 1 hr. Otherwise simply relax and take in the inspiring atmosphere. After your free time you can walk down to the town of Aguas Calientes for a late lunch or a dip in the hot springs (not included). In the afternoon you take the train back. A frequent bus service takes visitors back to Aguas Calientes, where you will catch the train to Ollantaytambo at 18:22 ot at 19:00 h (sometimes subject to the train availability) and then the tourist bus on to Cusco.

Day 7

Free day in Cusco

According to your flight or bus schedule, we will give a free walking tour around the city of Cusco, to discover the enigma of this city and at the same time you can do some souvenir shopping. Then transfer to the Airport or Bus station to your next destination
