Day 1

Cusco – Sacred Valley – Pisaq – Urubamba – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes

The Sacred Valley tour starts in Cusco at 8:00 am. We pick you up from your hotel and bring you to the bus, where you will meet your tour guide and your travel mates (shared service). We leave Cusco around 8:30 am in direction of Pisaq, descending to the Sacred River Urubamba. With a few stops along the way at various lookout points, we will arrive at Pisaq town, where you can enjoy browsing around the traditional handicraft market of Pisaq with enough time for local souvenir shopping. Afterwards we drive up the mountain where Pisaq ruins are located. Our tour guide will take you around temples, terraces, tunnels of this complex all the time enjoying the majestic view of the Sacred River and also the Intihuatana (sun clock).

Then we drive among the Sacred River passing by a colourful little town, where you can observe the descendants of the Quechua people wearing colourful ponchos. We stop in Urubamba town to take a lunch (we recommend a buffet lunch of Peruvian food) After a short rest we keep going until we reach Ollantaytambo, one of the last living Inca town. You will be amazed by this Inca town, the impressive temple of the Sun with its intricate stone work detail, the terraces constructed to sustain the mountain and admire the temple in the shape of a lama. You will have short time to explore by yourself this amazing complex with its beautiful water fountains.

After exploring the complex your tour guide will show you the train station from where you will take the train at 4.36 pm in direction to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Town) an incredible journey of 2 hours on a train with panoramic windows which takes you along the Sacred River of the Incas descending from high valley down to cloud forest, at 2000 m. The landscapes changes drastically in front of your eyes, you will be able to see the tropical mountain ending in snow carpet and the small waterfalls shimering on the hills, forming small rivers that flow down to converge at the Sacred River. After these spectacular natural views you will arrive at Aguas Calientes where the warm atmosphere welcomes you with typical jungle sounds.

Green Peru adventures staff will be waiting with your name at the gate of the train station in Aguas Calientes and bring you to your Hostel. At 7:00 pm at your hotel, the tour guide will come to give you a briefing for the next day of the tour.
